What is StarToken?

Why do I need StarToken?

Through StarToken, access all your frequently used banking services through a single click. For services like, check account balance, fund transfer you do not need to log into the internet banking website. Also, with the increasing usage of various devices for banking needs there is an equivalent increase in malicious threats that put your confidential information, identities at the risk of being stolen. In order to further strengthen the security measures to curb cyber crime incidents and to enhance your banking experience Bank of India has launched StarToken.

Is it mandatory to use StarToken to access Bank of India Internet Banking? Why?

Bank of India has made use of StarToken mandatory to all the customers who perform net-banking activities such as online transactions, tax payment, online shopping etc. This is to ensure watertight security of all your confidential data and to protect you from any financial fraud.
Activate your StarToken

I am unable to access my internet banking account through the Bank of India internet banking website. It displays the message "You have been enrolled for using StarToken by Bank of India, please use StarToken for internet banking". What should I do now?

This means that you have been enrolled to use StarToken by Bank of India. You will have 30 days period to download StarToken, post which you will not be able to proceed with internet banking without StarToken. You must have received StarToken activation credentials on your registered mobile number to activate StarToken. Follow the below simple steps to download and activate StarToken to continue with internet banking.
  • Log in to internet banking through https://starconnectcbs.bankofindia.com
  • Click on download button
  • Run the downloaded .exe file
  • After running the file, you will have a StarToken icon on your desktop. Double click on this icon to launch StarToken
  • Log-in to StarToken by entering your internet banking User ID
  • Enter activation code matching with verification key that you have received on your registered mobile number
  • Set secret question, provide secret answer for question. (Keep secret answer which is easy to remember)
  • Set 4 digit PIN which will be needed every time you log into StarToken

How can I download & activate StarToken?

  • You can download StarToken only if you have been enrolled to use StarToken by Bank of India. If you have been enrolled, you would have received the activation credentials on your registered mobile number.
  • If you have been enrolled and you have received the activation credentials, then follow the below simple steps to download and activate StarToken.
    • Log in to internet banking through https://starconnectcbs.bankofindia.com
    • Click on download button
    • Run the downloaded .exe file
    • After running the file, you will have a StarToken icon on your desktop. Double click on this icon to launch StarToken
    • Log-in to StarToken by entering your internet banking User ID.
    • Enter activation code matching with verification key that you have received on your registered mobile number
    • Set secret question, provide secret answer for question. (Keep secret answer which is easy to remember)
    • Set 4 digit PIN which will be needed every time you log into StarToken

On how many devices StarToken can be activated ?

StarToken can be activated on as many devices. Their is no device limit.

While downloading StarToken from Bank of India internet banking site, I am getting the error message: This file couldn't be downloaded. What do I do?

Please try downloading the file later. If this doesn't help and the error persists, it could be because "Do not save encrypted pages to disk option in Internet Explorer is selected". Follow instructions in this link to resolve the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2549423

Why have I received an email with verification key and activation code of StarToken from Bank of India?

This means that you have been enrolled for using StarToken for internet banking. Follow the below simple steps to download and activate StarToken to continue with internet banking.

  • Click on download button
  • Run the downloaded .exe file

Note:-You may also receive the Activation Credentials if your StarToken user has been RESET

I am connecting to Internet through a proxy, how should I set the proxy settings in StarToken?

  • Open internet explorer
  • Click on tools
  • Select Internet Options
  • Select tab Connections
  • Click on button LAN settings
  • You should be able to see the Proxy Server details such as IP address and port
  • For your Proxy UserID and Password contact your Networks team if you are not aware of the same
  • Please note down the Proxy Settings.
  • Try to access StarToken directly without specifying proxy settings - you will be prompted to provide proxy settings by StarToken.
  • Please enter the proxy settings in this StarToken interface to run StarToken with Internet connection from behind proxy server.

I have deleted/lost the activation credentials SMS from my phone. How do I regenerate the activation credentials?

If you have lost the activation credentials - no worries, you will see the 3rd option Generate Activation Code Again in StarToken NG. It will send the new Activation Code and Verification Key on your registered mobile number. In case you are not able to receive the SMS on your registered RMN then please Write to support.startoken@bankofindia.co.in or contact to the branch that RMN is correctly registered.You can also call us at 022 40919191 / 1800220229.

I did not receive any StarToken Activation Credentials, but when I try to login, the message is displayed You are enrolled for StarToken and activate StarToken using the Activation Credentials sent to me. What do I do?

What is the StarToken PIN? Why do I need StarToken PIN?

StarToken PIN is your unique 4 digit Personal Identification Number that you will need to set and remember, in order to log into StarToken for internet banking. You will set the StarToken PIN while activating it for the first time (or after subsequent reset).

Why do I need to create StarToken OTP?

  • When you know that you may need to use StarToken on a different computer and receiving OTP on your registered mobile device is not an option, you need to create StarToken OTP.
  • If you are traveling to a no mobile network location where you may not receive SMS on your registered mobile number, you should generate StarToken OTP in advance and carry it with you safely.

OTP not receiving on Registered Mobile Number while activating StarToken on new machine?

  • If you received OTP earlier on the same number then the possible cause could be your mobile may not in network coverage area OR DND could be activated OR Message Box may full.
  • If you never received the OTP on your registered mobile number, then please ensure with your home branch for mobile number is registered properly.

What is the security question? Is it necessary to remember the secret question and answer that I set for my StarToken?

It's an additional authentication step required when you try to use StarToken from any other personal computer than your registered computer on which you have already activated StarToken. Your secret question and answer should not be shared with anyone.

Can I access my Internet banking account from other browsers, after I have activated my StarToken?

  • Visit https://starconnectcbs.bankofindia.com and login to your retail/corporate internet banking account through recommended browser.
  • You will be prompted to activate StarToken with options Yes and No
  • Click Yes and you will be taken to the download page of StarToken
  • Download and Install the StarToken on your Personal Computer that you generally use
  • Locate the Icon of StarToken on Desktop and double click on the same
  • You will be asked to enter the OTP
  • If you have generated StarToken OTP from your active and registered personal computer, then enter the StarToken OTP
  • If not, you will receive OTP ID and OTP on your registered mobile device
  • Verify if the OTP ID on StarToken is same as the one received by you as SMS
  • If the OTP ID matches, enter the OTP in the field provided as received through SMS
  • System will prompt you to enter StarToken PIN
  • Upon entering valid StarToken PIN you will be taken to the Internet Banking login page of Bank of India with your User ID pre-populated.
  • Enter your Internet Banking Password and continue using your net-banking

To log in to Bank of India internet banking through StarToken, I am unable to see virtual keyboard

  • Ensure Javascript is enabled in Internet Explorer (IE). To do this follow these steps
    • Go to IE >> Tools >> Internet Options >> Security >> Custom Level
    • Scroll down to the "Scripting" >> Active scripting option
    • Click on "Enable"
  • Please ensure virtual keyboard is working in regular Internet Explorer on the machine
    • Open IE
    • Enter URL https://starconnectcbs.bankofindia.com
    • Click on Retail link on left side
    • On popup window, click on "Use Virtual Keyboard"
    • Ensure it shows the enable virtual keyboard on the right side of the login text box
Using a different device where StarToken is not Activated?

What do I do when I need to access my internet banking account from a computer where StarToken is not installed or activated?

  • Visit https://starconnectcbs.bankofindia.com and login to your retail/corporate internet banking account through recommended browser.
  • You will be prompted to activate StarToken with options Yes and No
  • Click Yes and you will be taken to the download page of StarToken
  • Download and Install the StarToken on your Personal Computer that you generally use

While accessing StarToken from a new device, I am facing an error "Too many additional authentication attempts."

To resolve this issue, please follow the below steps
  1. If you have already activated StarToken on some other machine then, login to the Startoken on already StarToken active machine.
  2. Change the secret Question and Answer.
  3. Try again from new machine.
Note: If the above steps failed then please visit to the nearest branch and submit Startoken Regeneration Request.

While accessing StarToken from a new device, I am facing an error "Your access from new computers has been blocked for security reasons."

This error indicates that the user has attempted to login from a new computer and has provided the wrong security answer and/or OTP. To resolve the issue, the user must login from a previously activated machine and generate a new OTP. The new OTP can then be used to activate a new machine. If the user does not have access to the old (previously activated) machine, they must call the HelpDesk to have their userid "reset".
Quick Banking Feature

What is Quick Banking ?

Quick banking feature enables the user to perform NEFT transfer, check balance, check mini- statement, etc. The list of features supported under quick-banking are listed below.

Balance Enquiry

This feature of quick banking allows user to check the current available balance in an accounts.

Mini Statement

This feature allows the user to check the mini-statement for a particular account of Bank of India. The mini-statement typically shows the last 5 transactions that were performed on that account, along with some description that might indicate the type of transaction and the amount credited/debited as a result of that transaction.

Fund Transfer

This feature allow to transfer funds quickly for Self link, Third Party, Other Bank Account (Only NEFT), Instant Money Transfer (IMT) and Last five Quick Banking Transactions.
Self Link: This feature allows to transfer funds between their own various Bank of India accounts. A user will be able to make use of this feature only if the user has more than one account with Bank of India.Self Link fund transfer is allowed FROM: SBA, CCA, CAA, ODA accounts To: SBA, CCA, CAA, ODA accounts. Also for NRE Account, Self Link fund transfer is allowed to SBA, CCA, CAA, ODA, TDA.
Third Party: This feature allows to transfer funds within Bank of India Accounts.Third Party fund transfer is allowed From: SBA,CCA,CAA,ODA accounts To: SBA, CCA, CAA, ODA accounts. Also for NRE Account, Third Party fund transfer is allowed to SBA, CCA, CAA, ODA, TDA.
NEFT: This feature allows the user to perform funds transfer from Bank of India account to accounts with other banks in India. User will be able to transfer funds to beneficiaries which are pre-registered in Star Token.
IMT: This feature allows the user to send funds using IMT (Instant Money Transfer) transaction facility. In order to transfer the funds using IMT, firstly user has to add beneficiary using "MAnage Beneficiary" Option.
Last 5 Quick Banking Transactions: This feature allows the user to see the list of last 5 transactions that were performed using the StarToken-NG quick banking application.

Sync Account

This feature of quick banking allows user Sync all the accounts which are belongs to its IB.

Sync Beneficiary

This feature of quick banking allows user Sync NEFT Beneficiary added in IB.

What is Quick Banking Transaction Password?

Quick Banking Transaction Password is used to transfer funds from Quick Banking option. User himself has to set and activate this Quick Banking Transaction Password to Transfer the funds from Quick Banking.

How to setup and activate Quick Banking Transaction Password ?

Please follow the below steps to activate the Quick Banking Transaction Password.
  1. Login to StarToken
  2. Click on the Change Secret .
  3. Click on Transaction Password.
  4. Go to Home and Click on StarConnect Option in StarToken
  5. Login to the Internet Banking
  6. Click on menu Request
  7. Click on StarToken Request
  8. Click on the checkbox of Do you want to activate the Transaction Password for your StarToken Request?
  9. Enter your user ID
  10. Enter the Transaction Password (Here enter the Internet Banking Transaction Password) and Click on Submit button.

What to do if I forgot the Quick Banking Transaction Password ?

Please follow the below steps to if you forgot the Quick Banking Transaction Password.
  1. Login to StarToken
  2. Click on the Change Secret .
  3. Click on Transaction Password.
  4. Click on Forget Transaction Password.
  5. Enter StarToken Pin.
  6. Enter New Transaction Password.
  7. Enter Confirm New Transaction Password.
  8. Click on Submit.
  9. Go to Home and Click on StarConnect Option in StarToken
  10. Login to the Internet Banking
  11. Click on menu Request
  12. Click on StarToken Request
  13. Click on the checkbox of Do you want to activate the Transaction Password for your StarToken Request?
  14. Enter your user ID
  15. Enter the Transaction Password (Here enter the Internet Banking Transaction Password) and Click on Submit button.

How to change the Quick Banking Transaction Password ?

Please follow the below steps to change the Quick Banking Transaction Password.
  1. Login to StarToken
  2. Click on the Change Secret .
  3. Click on Transaction Password.
  4. Click on Change Transaction Password.
  5. Enter Current Quick Banking Transaction Password.
  6. Enter New Transaction Password.
  7. Enter Confirm New Transaction Password.
  8. Click on Submit.

How to add the NEFT beneficiary in Quick Banking ?

Please follow the below steps to Add the beneficiary in Quick Banking.
  1. Login to StarToken
  2. Add Beneficiary in StarConnet Internet Banking .
  3. It will take nearly 24 hours to verify the Beneficiary.
  4. If you have already added then click on Sync Beneficiary in Quick Banking.
  5. Once beneficiary successfuly synced, it will automatically appear in NEFT fund transfer .

In Quick Banking I am getting error as "Failed to fetch details. Please try again by clicking the Refresh icon above" .

This error appears when an account may not available in Internet Banking (StarConnect) for that user ID. To investigate the issue further, you can login to StarConnect and check Accounts. If accounts are showing means aacounts are not linked to this user. Please contact to branch and ask for the same OR send E-mail with the screenshot to boi.starconnect@bankofindia.co.in .
Having Trouble Using StarToken?

I am getting the message "No such enrollment". What should I do ?

This means the Startoken NG facility not availed for your user. Please contact to support.startoken@bankofindia.co.in .

My StarToken is blocked because I entered incorrect StarToken PIN for 4 consecutive times, what do I do now?

  • StarToken will display "Too many wrong PIN attempts. Your access to StarToken has been temporarily suspended. You can now reset your StarToken online"
  • Click on OK button
  • You will be sent an OTP on your registered mobile number
  • You will be prompted to enter your answer to security question along with the OTP
  • Verify the OTP ID of StarToken with the OTP ID received on your mobile, enter answer and OTP
  • You will then receive activation credentials on your mobile
  • Use these credentials to activate StarToken the way you did for the first time and continue with your net-banking
  • If your mobile number is not registered with Bank of India, put a request for regenerating your StarToken token (User ID) by visiting your home branch. You will receive activation credentials on your registered mailing address within 10 working days. Use these credentials to activate StarToken the way you did for the first time and continue with your net-banking.

What if I have forgotten my StarToken security question and answer?

  • If you have access to personal computer on which your StarToken is active, please login to StarToken and locate the button Change Secrets in the control panel.
  • If you do not have access to your StarToken Active Personal Computer, put a request for regenerating your StarToken Token (UserID) by visiting your nearest BOI Branch.You will receive StarToken activation credentials at your registered mailing address within 10 working days. Use these credentials to activate StarToken the way you did for the first time and continue with your net-banking.

I am not able to connect to StarToken; it says "Check your internet connection" even though I am connected to Internet?

Since the message to check your Internet connection and the one for Proxy settings error are clubbed together, we have to deal with it a little patiently.
  • Are you getting this message after double clicking the StarToken.exe or after providing User ID?
  • If the message appears right after double clicking the StarToken.exe, then please make sure that you are connected to Internet. You may be accessing Internet from behind proxy please make sure that you enter proxy settings in StarToken.
  • If you are connected to Internet, then it may be some temporary issue with ISP or Bank of India Network -You should try again in some time.
  • Another possibility is that you may be within Proxy environment. Please enter the Proxy Credentials (IP, PORT, UserID, and Password) and try again.
  • If the message appears after entering UserID, then this could be due to the Antivirus program installed on the user's personal computer.
    • You should add StarToken.exe to the exclusion list of the Antivirus/Firewall program installed on your personal computer.
    • You should give StarToken 'Total (Full) access' in the application rules of the Firewall settings of the Antivirus program installed on your personal computer.

I am getting the message, 'Unable to create Secure Desktop'. What does it mean?

It means that you are running too many or a few very heavy applications in the background. Please try by closing some applications. StarToken requires some free memory to perform its own operations.

I am getting the message "Unable to connect to Bank of India servers. Please check your Internet Connection and try again."

This error can occur due to one of the following reasons. Please see below for troubleshooting steps for each.
  • The machine is not connected to the Internet
  • The machine is behind a proxy
    • Please check your proxy settings. Ask your administrator for details of the proxy server IP and port as well as a user name/password if required. Once you have entered your proxy settings, check whether IE browser can load https://starconnectcbs.bankofindia.com
  • The machine has a Firewall or AntiVirus that is blocking the connection
    • You will have to whitelist internet traffic from StarToken application to port 443 in the AnitVirus or Firewall. Since StarToken data is encrypted, the AV/Firewall cannot understand it and may block the connection. Please refer to your AV/Firewall documentation or customer service on how to allow traffic for "unknown protocol" to port 443.
  • The machine is on a LAN which has a firewall which blocks the connection
    • If you do not have a AV/Firewall or have already whitelisted it, please ask your network administrator whether the office uses a firewall which blocks the traffic. They may have to whitelist StarToken traffic to BOI G/W server, port 443 for unknown protocol

To log in to Bank of India internet banking through StarToken, I am unable to see virtual keyboard

Exceptions

Why have I received an OTP on my mobile even though I have not requested for one. What should I do?

OTPs are sent to customers registered mobile phones in case they are attempting to use a new device to login to StarToken. If the user believes they have not requested for an OTP but have yet received one, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
  • Some other user has incorrectly registered your mobile number as theirs. This could happen due to incorrect data entry while registering for the service.
  • Someone is attempting to use your user id to login to StarToken from their computer. This could either be an unintended error in typing the user id [example jshah user may mis-type user id as kshah] or it may be a fraudster attempting to login to your account. StarToken is designed to protect against such attacks, by requiring the fraudster to provide the OTP sent on your registered mobile, to gain access to the accounts. Hence it is important that you do NOT share the OTP sent to you with anyone on the phone, over email or any website.
